We sat down with Pietro to discover his secrets to healthy skin…

Pietro Simone Skincare looks fantastic, could you tell us a bit more about it?

Where do I start? There are a million things I could tell you about my skincare ranges, but one main point that must be said is that all the ranges are based on the concept that ‘skin is the theatre of life’- and what I mean by that, is that our skin should be viewed as an organ, in fact, it is our largest organ and not something we attend to when we feel like it, or we put something on it because another IT cream has come out onto the market and we must have it. Through my skincare ranges, my mission is to support and enhance skin, through my IBC technologies, active compounds and my 22 years of creating signature facial techniques.

What excites you about formulating new skincare products?

What excites me the most is the reality of solving, helping and specifically resolving problems of the skin. In a market that is dominated by appearances, I want those who use my skincare ranges to see value by seeing results.

You’re a big fan of Gua Sha facial massage, what are the major benefits?

Gua Sha is so ancient but therapeutic in many different ways. (When done correctly) Gua Sha induces a self repairing action into the skin. The level of engagement of the Gua Sha massage technique allows the micro circulation of the skin to be supported; a repairing action starts, and when combined with the right products, great results can be achieved.

What is your current day and night time skincare routine?

My current one is as follows.

During the Day:  Pietro Simone Revitalising Cleanser, Future Texture, Dewy Reboot, Fierce Infusion and the Fierce Shield SPF 20.

During the Night: Pietro Simone Compulsory Cleanse, Future texture, Age Preserve and Bio Recovery.

Always morning and night I use my eye contour cream, because I can’t be without it! I also use 2/3 times a week the Prestige and FIERCE oil.

Do you have any insider secrets you can share about maintaining healthy skin?

Laugh and find your reality and space. Take care of yourself, food is paramount. I drink 4 sometimes 5 litres of water a day!

How can we adopt a more mindful and sustainable skincare routine?

I may sound controversial for saying this, but forget about the ‘fashion’ aspect of skincare and understand your own personal skin requirements.

What does your skin need today? Having a clear idea of what your skin concerns are, what your skin type is is fundamental in order to use the correct skincare and create your bespoke skincare routine.

Do you recycle? Should we recycle?

Of course I do!

I started to switch a lot of daily habits (like no or as little plastics as possible) over the last 3 years, and personally, I feel much more satisfied with myself because I believe that if we all want to continue to have pleasure and see all that our world has to offer- we must help to nurture and preserve it. It’s a simple concept and one that many people out there are still not grasping or can understand.

How do you take care of yourself? What are your self-care tips?

I do different things, from sports, to yoga, or gym but equally I create a balance and have proper resting time, or a massage.

A lymphatic massage is a must for me every 3-4 weeks.

Meditation- mostly sound therapy helps me a lot, and I control my food intake. Although this sounds a bit sad, it is what my body needs to gain its balance and reach a place of wellness. It’s not all bad though as sometimes just enjoying a glass of wine with friends is one of my ‘great self care tips’ as well!

What’s the most interesting thing you learnt this week?

Give time to everything-patience is key.

What challenges are obstructing more sustainability in your industry?

This is a great question, and to spearhead it I think the greatest challenge or obstruction to more brands being more sustainable is their reluctance to lose luxury packaging of their products. It’s understandable, as they don’t want to lose the ‘wow’ factor via luxury materials which, in turn, creates brand image, but at the end of the day, it’s not the appearance of the skincare or product that counts, but what is inside the bottle/jar and its performance.

I think customers are becoming more savvy to this point too, and questioning brands who over-do it on the packaging, and recognise the hypes from the authentic brands who deliver quality and performance in their product.

What is on your must see or must read list right now?

I’m an incredible skincare fanatic and nerd, so right on my must read list is anything that talks about peptides, delivery systems and skin barrier supporting ingredients for the skin. I’m always on the go to discover and create something better- it’s my passion in life.

What Good News have you had / heard this week?

My good news this week is that they are re-opening the travel corridor from the USA to the UK, and so I am hopeful to be able to travel back to the UK soon. I miss all my clients out there and want to catch up with them, and support them with all they and their skin has been going through during this pandemic!
